SURF algorithm for X Ray images



Has anyone ever tried a SURF algorithm to identify images coming from X-ray images?



Given collections of X-ray images from several points of view, the challenge is to identify a set of metallic pieces which can show different shapes and eigenvalues depending on the axis where the X-ray is taking the shot. My first guess is to train a SURF algorithm to find points of interest. But maybe there are smarter approaches.



Any suggestion?
